Best Fleets To Drive For 2017
At the start of every year, the Truckload Carrier Association (TCA) searches the nation for the Best Fleets to Drive For. The annual contest recognizes American fleets for exceptional workplace experiences and professional truckers. To be nominated, at least one driver must formally submit their carrier, and the winning carriers often have several drivers’ nominations. The TCA reviews carrier policies like corporate direction, as well as programs and policies for drivers. If carriers make it past the first review, the remaining fleets are evaluated on a scoring matrix that covers:
- Total compensation package
- Base pay
- Sick Days
- Health Benefits
- Pension Plans
- Professional development opportunities
- Career path and advancement opportunities
Carriers that score the highest on the rubric are named the 2017 Best Fleets to Drive For. When a carrier earns this recognition, drivers know that they will get the respect they deserve, and it will show in their paycheck.
In January 2016, American Driver Jobs reported that the driver shortage has increased salaries in the trucking industry across the board, with the highest increases given to owner operators. This trend continued through 2016 and into 2017 where owner operators are seeing significant gains.
For 2017 job offers, carriers have better incentives for signing on and staying loyal. Our sister website, Truck Driver Jobs in America, lists several carriers that are currently offering $10,000+ to new and experienced drivers.
Drivers that are looking for top truck driving jobs to work with can refer to the Best Fleets list as a first step when it’s time to find a new job. Other resources like online job databases can help drivers compare job listings including company information and benefits. For example, TruckDriverJobsInAmerica.com allows a driver to sort job listings by CDL class restrictions, haul types, regions and even benefits.
Drivers also use online communities to vet companies before making a decision. By staying involved in one or more of these communities, a driver is able to make real connections and share up to date information about working for specific companies or the requirements of certain jobs.
Congratulations to TCA’s Top 20 Best Fleets to Drive For! Thank you for keeping our roads safe and our drivers happy; but most of all, thank you to all drivers who work hard to haul goods across America! We appreciate the late night hauls, the patience during traffic jams, and the dedication to deliver on time that it takes to be a top tier trucker
